A few weeks ago, I talked about being God’s Masterpiece. This week I wanted to share where you find your worth.
As you walk through this world, you are constantly being bombarded with ideas of what people think about you. They are constantly trying to define your worth. It could be your family, your friends, strangers, and even companies trying to sell you something that you must have.
You are constantly hearing negative things about yourself-you’re too big, too small, too shy, too outgoing. This thing is coming from everywhere. You see it on Facebook and Twitter, you see it in grocery stores and you see it on T.V. and movies.
It seems impossible to live life without hearing what other people think about you or what you should look like.
Everyone seems to have an opinion but the most important opinion is God’s.
So, what exactly does God think about you?
God thinks that you are worth fighting for.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” | Exodus 14:14
God doesn’t NEED you, He WANTS you. He didn’t need to send Jesus to put Him on the Cross to die for our sins. He wanted to forgive you. He loved you so much that HE wanted to be with you for all of eternity.
He thinks that you are His handiwork.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” | Ephesians 2:10
Quickly take a second to think about how you are called God’s handiwork in the Bible!
Think about it this way. People from all over the world know the famous singer, Adele. It could be argued that she is one of the best vocalists ever. Everyone loves her songs and when she goes on tour, hundreds of thousands flock to the venues to listen to the work she has done. The price of the ticket and the distance away from home you have to travel doesn’t matter. Her handiwork is worth every cent and every mile.
Bring it back to God, now. The artist who made you is so much better than any other artist.
So, the next time you think negatively about the way you look, or the next time someone tells you that you are less than “perfect” when compared to what the world deems perfect, just remember: YOU ARE GOD’S HANDIWORK!
He thinks that you are Holy and Blameless in His sight.
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” | Ephesians 1:4
Are we blameless? Absolutely not. We’re definitely sinners, but because of the amazing sacrifice of Jesus’ life, we’re able to be holy and blameless in His sight.
Have you ever been left out before? Have you ever been the last one picked for a team or a project? The next time you feel that way, just remember this: YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY GOD SINCE BEFORE THE WORLD EXISTED!
He thinks that you are more than a conqueror.
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” | Romans 8:37
(What does that mean? Try this, substitute the word “conqueror” for one of these: victor of a battle, winner of a war, champion of a fight.)
I can only speak for myself here, but sometimes, I definitely don’t feel like a conqueror; probably more like a coward. There are times when I can’t even imagine anyone would consider me as a winner because I feel so useless. But, the Word of God says that we are not only winners but we are more than conquerors. How? Through God who loved us.
Next time you’re feeling down about yourself, remember that not only are you loved by the creator of the universe; because He has overcome the world, you too have become a conqueror of the world through Him.
He thinks that you are loved.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” | Jeremiah 31:3
I think we can all agree that there are times where we don’t feel very loved or times where we don’t feel like we deserve to be loved. Unfortunately, this is a side-effect of allowing the world to tell us where our worth and value come from.
Hopefully, you have a wonderful family who loves you and a ton of loyal, loving friends. Hopefully, you don’t have parents who could not care less about you and no friends at all. Regardless, none of those people matter when it comes to how loved you are.
This is because God loves you so much more than any and all of those people could ever love you. He doesn’t just love you; He loves you with an everlasting love.
He thinks you are delightful.
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” | Zephaniah 3:17
It would be nice to hear from anyone that you are worth delighting in. But to hear that from God, that’s incredible.
We need to stop allowing what others to think of us to shape how we think of ourselves. From now on, God should be the only one who affects the way you think about yourself.
God, the creator of the universe. The one who created every single star. The one who controls the oceans and created the mountains. The one who knows the number of grains of sand on the beach and the number of blades of grass in the field cares about you.
Does anything else really matter? No, it doesn’t. Once you’ve heard these things, it just seems pointless and silly to worry about what anyone else says.
Do this: Think about how you feel when you know that someone thinks or says something mean about you.
Now think about how you felt just now hearing those things that God thinks and says about you. Do you think there is probably someone else out there who would like to hear these things from someone, especially from the creator of the universe?
We, as Christians, are called to stand up for each other and to shine the light of Jesus on each other. That means that when you talk and think about others, you should do so with how they feel in mind. Do you want them to feel the way you know how it feels when someone says something mean about you, or do you want them to feel the way you how it feels to know what God thinks about you?
